Notes from the bench

Hand-wound, on purpose

The first watch runs from 20:00 to midnight, and the arc on the dial covers 8 to 12. We chose the hand-wound SW510 M because it keeps the case 2 mm thinner than the automatic version, and because winding it every evening becomes a habit fast.

Pushers

The pushers are sealed with the same gaskets as the Middle 39’s crown, and the case is rated to 100 m. We’d still rather you didn’t start the chronograph underwater.

Why there are 40

A chronograph takes Theo a full day to assemble and case, against about two hours for a Middle 39. That is why batch 4 has 40 of them, and why it costs $2,950.

Every reference ships with a sailcloth strap. Sam cuts them from sails retired by Hollis Sails, the loft downstairs, so no two have quite the same weave.
